Getting to Winter Park

Winter Park Resort is a 90-mile drive from Denver via Interstate 70 with a turnoff at Exit 232 onto U.S. Highway 40 North. The resort is about 40 minutes north on U.S. Highway 40. Winter Park is accessible from the north via U.S. Highway 40 South from Granby, through the towns of Tabernash and Frasier. Denver International Airport (DIA) is the closest major airport.

For almost 70 years, Denver residents could access Winter Park via the Ski Train, which traveled to the resort through the Moffat Tunnel. The Ski Train ended in 2009 but returned in 2017 as the Winter Park Express. The Winter Park Express departs from Union Station in Denver. Tickets are available for one-way, round-trip, and weekend trips to the resort. Tickets include a seat, access to snacks and drinks in the Lounge Car, and plenty of mountain scenery. Union Station is accessible from Denver International Airport via the A-Line train.

The resort has three interconnected peaks accessible with a single lift ticket. Most trails are rated difficult (52percent), while 19 percent is for advanced skiers, 18 percent for intermediates, 8 percent for beginners and 3 percent for experts. The base at Winter Park sits roughly 9,000 feet above sea level, and the summit tops at 12,060 feet (a vertical rise of 3,060 feet). Winter Park gets about 315 inches of snow per year, but recent years have seen above-average snowfall.
