Getting there

Park City is about a 45-minute drive (depending on weather and traffic) from Salt Lake City International Airport, via Interstate 80 East to Highway 224 South at Kimball Junction. To reach Park City from the south, take U.S. 189 North from Provo to Highway 224 West. Park City is about a one-hour drive from Provo, depending on weather and traffic. Park City Mountain Resort

In recent years, Park City has been connected to nearby Canyons Resort by the new Quicksilver Gondola. The result is the largest lift-served ski resort in the United States. The full resort is now referred to as Park City Mountain Resort. Canyons Resort is known called the “Canyons at Park City” or “Canyons Village.”

The eight-passenger Quicksilver Gondola transports skiers from the Silverlode Lift at Park City to the Flat Iron Lift at Canyons Village in under 10 minutes. There’s even a midway stop at the top of Pine Cone Ridge that has opened up gate-accessed terrain into Thaynes Canyon on the Park City side and three new runs on the Canyons side.

Park City Mountain Resort has a base elevation of 6,900 feet. Park City Mountain has a summit elevation of 10,000 feet, a vertical rise of 3,100 feet from the base. The resort receives about 365 inches of snowfall annually. There are nine bowls, four total terrain parks, one super pipe, one mini pipe and close to 350 named trails. Most of the trails are rated intermediate (54 percent), while around 31 percent are rated expert. About 15 percent of trails are for beginners. The resort is popular for beginners, and there is a magic carpet in the kids’ instruction area.

Deer Valley Resort

Deer Valley Resort is an upscale ski resort near Park City Mountain Resort that oozes luxury for its more discerning visitors, but is also a great spot for beginners, families and children. Almost 25 percent of the trails at Deer Valley Resort are for kids. There are more than 2,000 acres of skiable terrain over six peaks, including more than 90 named trails. Even though it’s an attractive destination for families, Deer Valley has maintained a reputation as a luxury resort, with gourmet dining, high-end amenities and plenty of pampering to go around.

Deer Valley Resort currently prohibits snowboarding on its slopes. The resort is one of only three remaining U.S. ski resorts that ban snowboarders. (Alta and Mad River Glen are the others.) The contentious issue has been debated by supporters and opponents for years. Snowboarding is allowed nearby at Park City Mountain Resort.

Après-ski and nightlife are a must in when you ski Park City. The town’s iconic Main Street has plenty of pubs, bars, restaurants and shops to keep you busy off the slopes. When you’re ready to get back on the hill, simply jump on the convenient gondola that will take you from Main Street directly to the mountain base.
