What visitors to BC may not know is that Blackcomb Whistler isn’t the only premier destination in British Colombia. Sun Peaks, in the Thompson Okanagan region is an absolutely fantastic resort that rivals the best in the world. They offer an astounding amount and variety of terrain, one of the most well-appointed ski villages in the world; and some of the best professional instructors, ski patrol and hospitality staff in the entire industry

Ski Levels

From the moment guests arrive they realize they are going to have an awesome time. The mountains (there are three of them,) rise some three thousand feet, and are divided into four distinct and contiguous areas which maximize convenience and ease of navigation. The main mountain is at the end of the canyon, and the other two are on either side flanking the box end, together they shelter the valley forming one massive ski area! Beginners have distinct areas away from the rest of the resort and there's lots of acreage for intermediate skiers. Advanced and expert skiers and riders will find an astounding amount of runs and backcountry to explore. Sun Peaks is massive and guests will be hard pressed to ski all the runs, even if they have a full week.

Visitors to Sun Peaks will always feel like welcome guests, and the staff really goes out of their way to make sure that each visitor is having a great time. Not only are the staff world-class, but the pristine landscape is saturated in some of the sweetest, finest, dry powder on the continent. The resort also hosts a variety of activities such as Mini Z’s snowmobiles, snowshoeing, snowtubing, a bungee trampoline, dogsledding, helicopter tours, ice skating and horse drawn sleigh rides. The opportunities for fun are endless at Sun Peaks.

The ski patrol, ski instructors and staff are all excellent. The instructors are happy to give tips to help even very experienced skiers get more out of each run. At Sun Peaks safety remains the number one priority and the ski patrol has extensive training and experience ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all of Sun Peak’s many visitors.

Après Ski

Riders Guide

Sun Peaks is the second largest ski resort in all of British Columbia with a summit elevation of over 7,000 feet and a base elevation of over 4,000 feet. It’s also the third largest ski area in the entire country and boasts over 3,600 skiable acres. There are two bowls and a huge 9 acre terrain park. In total, there are 122 trails and 12 gladed areas to explore. Sun peaks is perfect for the adventurous skier and rider. 58% of the trails are designed for intermediate level skiers. 32% are reserved for experts and 10% are for novice skiers. The zones for beginning, intermediate and advanced years are clearly marked and easy to navigate so every guest feels comfortable finding terrain to suit their ability level. The longest run is a whopping 5 miles long and a great challenge for all level of rider. Sun Peaks has more than 2,000 hours of sunshine every year and over 220 inches of snow as well as a great mild climate which makes riding Sun Peaks a thoroughly pleasant experience.


Parks and Pipes

The Rockstar Energy terrain park is fantastic and will challenge all abilities of park rider and freestyle skier with its impressive array of rails, boxes, tables and jumps. The park boasts nearly 40 features, including 10 jumps ranging from 8′ to 60′ and two dozen amazing rail features. The park is constantly growing and evolving and offers riders something new to explore each time they hit the park.


Out of Bounds

In addition to alpine skiing and snowboard terrain park there are 28 km of groomed cross-country skiing trails. There are also 12 km of ungroomed backcountry cross country trails. Other activities at Sun Peaks include horse drawn sleigh rides, ice skating, snowshoeing, snowtubing, dogsledding, helicopter tours and much more. In fact, at Sun Peaks the only thing visitors routinely worry about is how to fit everything into the time that they are there.


Hangout & Hookup

Sun Peaks is huge and has a great array of restaurants and après ski choices. From casual to upscale guests will find an impressive array of cuisine and afterhours entertainment in the village at Sun Peaks. In fact there are nearly two dozen places to choose from, whether it is a café, bar or culinary experience, Sun Peaks Village has something for everyone.


The Deal

Getting to Sun Peaks is simple. Guests from abroad should fly into Kamloops from there a shuttle service will deliver guests straight to the resort. By car, the drive from Kamloops is only about 45 minutes. From Vancouver follow Highway 5, the drive takes about 4.5 hours.
