Ski Sundown Ski Vacation Guide

This is an incredibly family friendly ski resort in Connecticut. They have amazing amenities, it’s conveniently located near Hartford, and it has an excellent array of terrain that is suitable for all levels of skier. There is also a wealth of activities, lodging, and dining options in and around the resort.

Ski Levels

The ski resorts spans 65 acres and 650 feet of vertical. There are more than a dozen named trails on the mountain, 50 percent beginner level trails, 25 percent intermediate, and 25 percent expert level trails. The area also features snowmaking on 100 percent of the mountain and offers night skiing and riding. The mountain is incredible well-appointed, there is a highly regarded race team, there is a fantastic and dynamic ski school, and there is a wonderful lodge that has stunning views of the mountains and the base area of the resort. Five ski lifts will take you to more than a dozen trails on the mountain's majestic 65 acres. There is an emphasis on beginner and intermediate trails, but the more seasoned skiers will have plenty of opportunity for a challenging day.

Après Ski

Off the slopes there is plenty to do in nearby Hartford: great shopping, entertainment, and cultural centers. In and around the area is sledding, tubing, ice skating, and sleigh rides the whole family will enjoy. There is not lodging available slopeside but plenty of quaint inns dot the countryside. Hartford is very close by and has everything from basic and affordable motels to luxurious boutique hotels, romantic bed and breakfasts and more. Dining options are also widely available and range from quick grab and go at Ski Sundown’s own base lodge to exquisite cuisine in Hartford, all tastes and budgets are catered to in and around Ski Sundown.

Riders Guide

This is an ideal place for intermediate and expert riders and freestyle skiers looking to hone their skills and challenge themselves. It also has great beginner terrain as well as a well-regarded ski and ride school. There is night riding every day of the week, so it’s great for people that go to work and school during the day.

Parks and Pipes

Recently completed a renovated terrain park for its many annual visitors, the terrain park has a great array of pipes, boxes, jumps, and jibs to suit a variety of skill levels. The mountain is snowboard and freestyle ski friendly, as there is not a lot of flat or cross-country acreage which slows riders down. It is also renowned for its lack of moguls, a chief complaint among riders.

Out of Bounds

Hartford has a wide assortment of museums, galleries, and other cultural centers. The city also has great dining, lodging, and shopping available year round. The area surrounding the ski resort offers visitors plenty of fun wintertime activities such as tubing, sledding, ice skating, sleigh rides, snowmobiling, and more. There is absolutely no shortage of things to do in an around this great resort.

There is a great pub lounge at the ski resort. It features great drink specials, stunning views of the area and serves as a perfect place to meet up with friends, unwind and relax after an epic day on the slopes.
