Sipapu Ski Vacation Guide

Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort is growing each year, but still small enough to feel cozy for families. The discount price range of lift tickets and the close-knit atmosphere makes it a popular family vacation spot with the longest ski season in the Rockies.

Ski Levels

Over 40 trails and two terrain parks offer something for everyone. Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort is the ideal resort for those who want to ski with their families. And it's perfect for those who want to avoid the large crowds, high lift-ticket prices and long lift lines at the larger resorts. There are enough long and challenging trails to keep even experienced skiers happy, while it's the perfect place for beginners to hit the slopes.

Après Ski

Dining at the River Café is a treat. This café, in Sipapu Lodge, features a menu with a variety of dishes and flavors. They pride themselves on home-cooked food with fresh, wholesome ingredients. You won't find frozen, canned, or boxed dishes at this café, and don't miss the special homemade desserts baked each day. The Sipa-Burger is a local favorite, but you can also get steak and New Mexican cuisine like burritos. The Sipapu Grill is available for typical lunch and dinner fare, from burgers and fries to New Mexican cuisine. Nightlife includes a lounge where they offer several varieties of beers and liquors with several local brews on tap. The fireplace in the lodge is a popular place to gather après ski for tales of the slopes or just family togetherness. Among the mom and pop shops, you can find almost two dozen varieties of homemade fudge, as well as basic supplies and souvenirs. There's also a full-service ski shop. Since the town is just 20 miles from Taos, many visitors travel there to experience the shops, restaurants, and many cultural activities like museums and festivals.

There are many family activities available for families, from ski and ice bowls to moonlight hikes and campfires. A ski school is available for kids and beginning skiers who want to improve their skill. Their February Fun Fest is perfect for families with snow castle building, treasure hunts, costume contests, bean bag and penny tosses, and a lot more family-friendly activities.

Sipapu Snowboard Vacation Guide

Rider’s Guide

Sipapu gets 190 inches of snowfall annually, and with snowmaking over 70% of the mountain, there’s no lack of powder. Although it’s not the largest ski resort with 200 skiable acres and four quality lifts, it’s still a great place to ski. A vertical drop of 1,055 feet and an almost 11,000-foot top slope, you can find skiing excitement even if you’re an advanced skier. The season lasts from November to April and boasts the longest ski season in New Mexico. There are over 40 trails available to ski, in a range that’s perfect for all classes of skier. The breakdown is 25 percent advanced trails with another 15 percent reserved for expert skiers. Most of the trails, a good 40 percent, are for intermediate skiers and about 20 percent of the trails are marked for beginners. Get your jib on without the big resort bling.

Parks and Pipes

The two terrain parks change each year with new features added throughout the season. The low-key attitude is perfect for beginners looking to build their skills, and the lack of crowds allows everyone to spend more time at the parks, not in line. Every season, the resort carefully plans and develops their parks to give guests an unforgettable experience. Plus, Sipapu ensures their playgrounds are ready both early and late in the season, so when other resorts are still working on their parks, you’ll be hucking at Sipapu. Created for all skill levels, the features flow smoothly together also giving you room for creativity. Sipapu offers both straight and rainbow rails, A-frame boxes, and small and large bread boxes. Test your balancing skills the six-foot tall, 100-foot long teeter-totter. Get sweet airtime or work on your takeoffs and landings on our terrain park jumps. The mountain’s unique terrain allows you catch air everywhere, not just in our terrain parks.

Out of Bounds

When you’re ready to relax away from the slopes, you can enjoy a variety of shops and eateries in both Sipapu and nearby Taos. But you can stay and enjoy spa treatments at the resort, like facials, deep-tissue massage, mountain massage, salt scrubs, and reflexology treatments. As an added luxurious convenience, you can enjoy these right in your room, as the spa comes to you.

Hangout & Hookup

There’s a café that is a great place for New Mexican dining, where you can enjoy dishes from porterhouse steaks to traditional New Mexican fare. There’s also a lounge where you can tip a few liquors, beers, and several locally brewed beers on tap to stay warm. A great place where families gather après ski is in front of the fireplace in the main lodge.
