Mount Southington Ski Vacation Guide

Mount Southington is a wonderful and quaint New England ski resort in the rural hills of Central Connecticut. It is located along a major highway and set back amidst pristine woodland forests and gentle rolling hills. Its central location in Connecticut makes it very easy to access. However, it’s as convenient as it is affordable and Mount Southington runs a series of great ski specials, group discounts, and fantastic ski and stay deals throughout the season.

Ski Levels

There are 14 named trails that cover more than 51 acres. Roughly 33 percent of the trails are rated for beginner, 42 percent are rated intermediate, and the remaining are set for the advanced. The mountain also offers night skiing and snowmaking on 100 percent of the terrain. There are 425 feet of vertical and a total of sevel lifts that carry visitors up the mountain. Mount Southington is home to two terrain parks, The Drop Zone and Turkey Turn Park. The Drop Zone is an intermediate park with boxes, rails and a 35’ step down jump. The Turkey Turn Park is a small beginner park with features ideal for new or small skiers and riders.

This ski area focuses a lot of its resources and energies on its great racing team and school. It is regarded as one of the best racing programs in all of the East coast. The school is run by a team of passionate professionals with many years of experience. It’s a great chance to introduce children of all ages to the exciting and exhilarating world of downhill skiing. The ski area also has a great selection of various other ski and snowboard lessons. There are lessons for children and adults, first-timers and more experienced skiers and riders. There are also private and group lessons and the guides are happy to work with guests in order to customize a perfect lesson package.

Après Ski

Located slope side, guests will find a large base lodge complete with a cafeteria and restaurant, equipment rentals, ski and snowboard shop, ski school and other great amenities. All the basics are covered. Unfortunately, there is not slope side lodging. However, Southington and nearby Hartford, Connecticut have plentiful options for accommodations that fit every budget. Whether its modest and affordable motels or lavish inns and luxurious lodges, the area has something to suit everyone.

Riders Guide

Mount Southington is a charming ski resort nestled in the hills of Central Connecticut. It’s a great and affordable ski area that’s ideal for families and groups of friends. In total there are 14 trails, 51 acres, and 425 vertical feet. One hundred percent of the terrain is open for night riding and all skiable acres have snowmaking capabilities on hand. There are seven lifts that can accommodate a large number of Mount Southington’s many guests each hour.

Parks and Pipes

Proudly boasting two terrain parks, Drop Zone and Turkey Turn Park are both located on the connecting trails lift line and Stardust and Turkey Turn. The Drop Zone is an intermediate park with boxes, rails and a 35’ step down jump. The Turkey Turn Park is a beginner park with small features. The parks are growing and expanding every year to include new and exciting features throughout the season.

Out of Bounds

This resort has a purist ski and snowboard area, there isn’t much more in the way of other activities that aren’t related to skiing and riding. There is a great race school that hosts a variety of excellent events and races throughout the season. There is also a reputable ski school with great instructors that offer a wide array of lessons perfect for honing old skills or developing and mastering new ones.

Hangout & Hookup

There is a lounge located slopeside at the Mountain Room Restaurant, which is a relaxed and inviting atmosphere to unwind after a day of riding. Hartford, Connecticut is also located nearby and has a great nightlife replete with bars, clubs, lounges and other fun evening activities. New York City is only two hours away and the gateway to some of the best nightlife found anywhere.
