The mountain is spread over 70 acres and has 11 trails, which are pretty evenly distributed for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers. The resort has 100 percent snow-making ability, which means that the slope conditions are maintained throughout the season.

By far the biggest draw to Mount Peter is the free first-timers ski school, which accepts students of all ages and physical ability levels. The resort’s numerous PSIA and AASI certified instructors have taught for many years and have an extensive arsenal of adaptive techniques that are specifically adjusted depending on the class. The wonderful lessons at Mount Peter will teach even the most nervous novice the skills and techniques that will foster confidence and a lasting love of the mountain and of snow sports.

There are heaps of activities in and around Mount Peter. The Hudson Valley boasts historic homes and museums, quaint towns, as well as fantastic wilderness hiking. There is also snowtubing, ice skating, snowshoeing, and extensive terrain for cross-country skiing. Because of its proximity to New York City, the resort makes a perfect day trip while visiting one of the greatest cities in the world.

There is not slope side lodging available at Mount Peter, however, the surrounding towns of Greenwood Lake, Chester and Warwick have plenty of options available, many of them perfect for a tight budget. In fact, many of the area’s lodging partner with the resort to offer unbeatable ski and stay deals throughout the winter months. Rider’s Guide

The resort is rather small which makes it incredibly easy to get around. In total, the ski area is 70 acres and contains 11 trails which evenly distributed for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers and snowboarders. There is more than 500 feet of vertical from summit to base. The resort gets an average of 55” of snow each year, and 100% snowmaking helps to ensure the best conditions despite weather patterns. Most notably, Mount Peter is best known for its incredible free first-time ski and snowboard lessons. Also, it’s one of the closest resorts to New York City.

Parks and Pipes

There is one terrain park at the resort which houses features of various sizes perfect for both beginners and more advanced riders and freestyle skiers. There are manmade and natural jumps, jibs, rails, and boxes for all ages to enjoy. The terrain park is located between the green run Snowfields and the black run River Bottom, which is accessed by Sam’s Chair.

Out of Bounds

The Hudson Valley boasts tons of great outdoor activities as well as indoor activities throughout the winter, plus it is accessible by both car, train and bus from New York City, one of the greatest cities in the world. In the Valley, visitors will find lots of historic and cultural attractions, including the Crailo State Historic Site, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Home and Boscobel Mansion. In addition to a rich history the area has snow tubing parks, ice skating, ice fishing, snowshoeing, sleigh rides and cross country skiing.

Hangout & Hookup

Visitors seeking an active nightlife should be warned that there isn’t a whole lot of après ski options at Mount Peter. The good news however, is that the surrounding towns offer a few pubs and restaurants featuring full-service bars. Since the resort is only about an hour from Manhattan, a day trip to the resort is a fantastic idea for those seeking some daytime excitement on the slopes as well as evening excitement in the city that never sleeps.

The Deal

Getting to Mount Peter Ski Resort is simple. It is conveniently located in the Hudson Valley, only one hour from New York City. Visitors from out of the area should fly into either JFK, LaGuardia or Newark from there, rent a car or arrange a bus service. By car, take the New York State Thruway to Exit 15 A., Take Route 17 North to Route 17A West. From there simply follow the signage to Mount Peter.
