Snowmass

Just 12 miles from Aspen, Snowmass is a stunning resort that exceeds expectations. Although grouped in with Aspen as one of the 10 largest resorts in the nation, first-timers are sometimes overwhelmed at the sheer size of the mountain. The upside to visiting such a gargantuan resort is that there are plenty of things to do, see, experience, and explore on the mountain and off. It is a veritable winter wonderland.

On the Slopes

At 4,406 vertical feet, it covers more than 3,100 acres, contains over 90 trails, nearly two dozen lifts that access pristine and challenging glades and steeps, and is home to several terrain parks. The longest run is 5.3 miles and serves as a perfect endurance test for skiers and riders. There are runs suitable for all ability levels, 6 percent beginner, 50 percent intermediate, 12 percent advanced, and 32 percent expert. Read more about the epic skiing here with Ski Experience and Terrain Parks.

Off the Slopes

This very well-appointed ski village has several rental and equipment shops. There’s also the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center, ski school, on and off mountain dining, as well as a plethora of fun and exciting activities. Visit a rejuvenating spa, go shopping in the village, or try snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at the resort. In the evening, families love gathering around the campfire to roast marshmallows and spend quality time together, or head to one of the many bars to hear live music and catch up with friends.

The beautiful base village includes over one million square feet of residential, hotel, restaurant, retail and conference space. The lodging choices range from basic and affordable to large and lavish. Presently there are elegant mountain retreats, gorgeous private homes, comfortable hotels, and stunning ski chalets.

This is a truly wonderful winter retreat, chock full of activities and is magnificently well-appointed. The appeal lies in the fact that it is a massive resort that can offer something to everyone, be they young or old, a seasoned expert or a first-timer.  While Aspen gets most of the spotlight, the understated Snowmass is a must-see winter vacation destination for skiers and riders from all over the nation.
