Reno

The Reno area is one of the most popular ski and ride destinations in the entire country and there are several reasons. For one, the area receives more than 500 inches of pristine powder every year. In addition, the area boasts the highest concentration of ski and snowboard resorts in all of North America—within an hour of the airport, guests will find 18 ski areas. And with all that snow and mountain fun, there is also a bevy of activities ranging from sleigh rides, ice skating, snow tubing, and sledding to gambling, shopping, dining, and watching world-class live entertainment.

On the Slopes

The summit elevations in the region range from 7,350 to over 10,100 feet. The high elevation, lake effect, and cold temperatures guarantee longer ski and ride seasons and absolutely excellent snowfall. The area’s unique mountains feature runs and trails and terrain parks for every level of skier or boarder. There are challenging moguls and powder chutes for experts, spectacular half-pipes, terrain parks, rails, and trick jumps for snowboarders, cruiser runs for mellower skiers and riders and bunny trails for the little ones.

Off the Slopes

Reno, “The Biggest Little City in the World,” is absolutely replete with activities, events, and places to see. There are excellent casinos, world-class entertainment, bars, clubs, chapels, shopping, restaurants, etc. There are also excellent museums, cultural centers and historic walks around the city. There is an impressive array of lodging available, from casino hotels to luxury condominiums, rental homes and motels. Reno has so many options that guests can tailor a vacation to perfectly suit their tastes.

Reno has a pretty extensive public transportation system. There are inner-city buses traveling throughout the city and surrounding area. There are trains traveling to other parts of Nevada and California, and many of the ski areas have shuttle services both from the airport and downtown daily, so that skiers and riders don’t have to bother with driving and parking.

Finally, the city has tons of shops for ski and snowboard enthusiasts and they often have inexpensive rental gear available as well. You will get fantastic discounts and closeout specials on equipment including skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, jackets, helmets, hats, gloves, custom boot fitting, and much more. Also, these shops have extensive ski and snowboard rental and repair departments. Season pass holders of Mount Rose will get discount prices on ski rentals on the mountain, but as a general rule, you will save money by visiting the ski and snowboard shops in the city verses paying on-mountain prices.
