On the Mountain
Did you know that Mt. Bachelor is in a central desert of the Central Cascades? This unique placement has the benefit of dry and light snow, sometimes up to 500 inches a year! The ski season is also one of the longest, usually starting in November by Thanksgiving and lasting well into May. The mountain is surrounded by the tall hemlocks and pines of the Deschutes National Forest and from atop the mountain you will see views of the Three Sisters and other Cascade peaks. Skiers and boarders alike agree this resort is one of the best in the Northwest for its snow conditions. The area offers more than a dozen trails of cross-county skiing ranging from beginner trails to expert, however, the bulk of the trails are ranked for intermediate skiers. For the more advanced thrillseekers, Bachelor offers four terrain parks differing in their assortment of pipes, kickers, and rails. While you are there, check out the free snowshoe tours provided by the National Forest Service. Snowshoeing can be enjoyed by all ages, however for the tours, it's best for ages eight and up, and no children in packs are allowed. The free tour will give you a chance to learn about winter ecology of the mountain, the geology of Central Oregon, the watershed of Deschutes National Forest, and the plants and animals found throughout the area.

Be sure to check the schedule and pricing of the Mt. Bachelor Shuttle, bringing you and your family to/from the mountain to the surrounding areas. Plan on staying longer than a few rides? Save with multi-ride and season passes.
