Diamond Peak may be a smaller resort in Tahoe, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t as impressive as some of the larger resorts in the area. Guests rave about the remarkable views of the lake and surrounding desert, especially from the top of Crystal Express. However, the lack of crowds, helpful and friendly staff, and affordable prices are just as impressive.
On the Slopes
The mountain has a staggering amount of variety in its terrain. The resort is spread over more than 650 acres and covers nearly 2,000 feet in vertical. Open glades, excellent tree skiing, and more than 30 runs vary significantly in ability levels. Beginners will use 18% of the runs, giving them plenty of room to learn. Intermediate skiers will use 46%, and the remaining 36% is suitable for advanced skiers.
Off the Slopes
The resort is well-appointed, although there is no slope-side lodging available. There is a beautifully renovated base lodge. Guests can enjoy expansive sun-soaked decks, equipment rental and repairs, a kid ski center, an adult ski and snowboard school, a sports shop, outstanding dining options, a beautiful après ski bar, and free shuttle services.
The surrounding area is rife with fun activities. There are sleigh rides, snowcat skiing, dog sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and more. Additionally, the towns of North Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe offer everything from great accommodations, world-class dining, boutique shopping, and some great casinos and live entertainment throughout the ski season. The area caters to nearly everyone with its plethora of winter activities and events. A popular event at the end of January is the annual Ullr Fest, a festival that celebrates all things winter and snow.
Getting Here
The area is 135 miles from San Francisco but only 30 miles from the Reno International Airport. Take US 395/580 south to Hwy 431/Mt. Rose Highway towards Incline Village. Turn left on Country Club Drive then left on Ski Way, and follow to the top. Or hop on the airport shuttle and enjoy the views.
