Ski Cooper Offers a Fresh Alternative to the Big Resorts
Unpretentious and powder-rich, Ski Cooper offers uncrowded skiing, vibrant history, and family-friendly fun in picturesque Leadville, Colorado.
Have you been skiing or snowboarding at Copper Mountain lately? It’s just down the road from Breckenridge and 75 miles west of Denver and Denver International Airport (DIA). Built to be a family vacation ski resort, Copper knows their audience. They have made sure you’ll have everything you could want. A grocery store, ski shops, shopping, and over a dozen restaurants, it’s all right there in its three villages: Center, East, and West. Ski and snowboard rentals are available at the base of the mountain, and learn-to-ski programs at ski and snowboard schools.
On the mountain, you will find naturally divided terrain, which means that the beginner runs are in one place, the intermediate slope in another, and the expert / advanced trails in another separate section of the mountain. All are joined together by shuttles or mountain ski lifts. And you won’t have to worry about accidentally getting onto a trail beyond your abilities. There are three impressive terrain areas, their awesome Main Vein 22′ Superpipe for snowboarders and skiers, and two front-side alpine bowls that offer downhill skiers opportunities. On Tucker, you find a backside bowl with snowcat service and back-bowl powder. Read our Ski and Snowboard Guide for more info about the resort’s skiing and riding experience.
The village was set up to be entertaining — almost like a wintertime theme park, but the theme and rides are the snow-covered mountains. There’s a variety of lively nightly entertainment, and some impressive bands play here throughout the year. Also, the restaurants and inviting pubs of Breckenridge and Frisco are right down the road. Transportation in the area is available by airport shuttle service, car, limos, and Greyhounds. Of course, discounted lodging, lift tickets, vacation packages, and transportation discounts are also available.
Copper is accessible from I-70 in the middle of Colorado. Fly into Denver, Salt Lake City, or Grand Junction and enjoy the scenery on your drive. Vail and Eagle are hosts to regional airports, but prepare yourself, flying over the mountains is always an experience.
